Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Mountains

Feature Photo by Upsplash.com

They lay together in the warmth of their spooned embrace; breathing slowly now, the embers of passion subsiding, she smiled with closed eyes as he held her close. Together they drifted to a cozy misty place of slumber. He wanted to remember that moment forever. Even in his torment of hearing, she had given herself to another; he wished to see her just one more time. Wisdom visited him in a dream one night, warning that should his wish be granted, his best memory would be traded for his worst. The day came when his wish was granted and he gazed at her from a distance, beautiful, happy, in the arms of another. He looked at her with grief in his heart. She turned briefly, looking into his eyes with no recognition of who he was; she lifted her face and kissed the other man. At that moment, his wish, his dream, had turned into a pillar of salt! In our lives, there is only one reality, an opportunity for enjoying love, peace, and joy in this moment now;  dreams of yesterday do not matter, and tomorrow does not exist until it becomes today. Seek only this moment in which you are living now.

If you keep peeling an onion, what do you have once it has all been peeled – a peeled onion. The important matter is this, did you enjoy peeling it, because it seems you are crying?

“Faith is the unconditional acceptance of something you are wanting has already come about, even though you don’t see it for the moment.

Very little of what you want in your life will come about if you do not believe in what you want in your life.

Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Patience

Feature Photo by Samuel Wong upsplash.com

“Two mature ladies sat under a great oak tree on an old bench. “Do you live here?” The one enquired. “Five minutes down the road, ” the other replied joyfully, grateful to have someone she could chat with. “I have lived here all my life, she continued.” “Ever traveled to another country or city?” “Never was inclined to do that.” “Oh! Any reason if you don’t mind me asking?” “Not at all. I was born in this town, baptized in the church over the road. All my schooling was completed in the town and then I married the only man I have ever loved in the same church over there.” Any children?” “Yes, one son.” Is your husband in business?” “No, fully retired,” “oh!” Yes, he died just after our son’s tenth birthday.” “Oh, how sad, I am sorry.” “No need, at 19 years my son joined the forces in Vietnam and I never saw him again.” “That must have been a terrible shock for you. You poor thing.” “A shock, yes, but it didn’t leave me poor. I had a man who loved me dearly. He gifted me with his life and blessed me with a son. My son was a fine young man, a bright scholar, and a top athlete. He loved and cared for his mother until he responded to his country’s call.” The silence between them was broken when the other woman looked up at the oak tree, “Beautiful tree, love the shade it gives; I wonder how old it is?” She remarked. “Forty-six years, five months, two weeks, and three days, to be exact.” What! How do you know that?” “I planted the little acorn in memory of the only two men I have ever loved. It took a lot of patience waiting for it to grow this big, so I could fully enjoy its shade. You know the old saying, ‘Great Trees from little acorns grow.’ But there’s no mention of how long it takes.” Silence. The moment was almost sacred.”

“When I was young I did all the talking. Now that I am older I have stopped talking and begun listening. I am learning so much more.”

“When I address anyone I have four non-negotiables I require of myself. I speak honestly, respectfully, empathetically, and with an understanding of what the other is needing to hear.”

“I have two choices in the way I speak; words that will encourage others or words that will break them down. Whatever I choose, will leave me responsible for the outcome.”

Love Loving

The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too.

Ernest Hemingway

Love Loving Yourself

How special are you in terms of your own opinion? Concerning this question in my own life, I came to see that from the age of seven years (I cannot recall anything before that time) to just a few years ago; I had many fears and insecurities.

When I was a teenager, I embarked on a long-time affair – with a mirror, yes a mirror! And probably connected to the fact that I noticed the opposite sex found me attractive. Naturally, I wanted to take full advantage of this newfound interest.

My Love Affair

Love yourself to Freedom

While all this was taking place, unawares to me, there was the subconscious surfacing of my fears and insecurities. As a consequence, these began competing with my mirror affair. Something else that climbed onto the stage of my love affair at this time was the increasing use of my imagination. I began pretending to be someone I was not (a type of Walter Mitty – by comparison.)

Love Yourself First

Today I know that I could have saved myself heartache and grief. These fears and insecurities would cause me to be co-dependent on the partners with whom I loved above myself. I discovered self-love only a few years ago. Since that discovery, I broke the chains of co-dependency.

Ancient Words of Wisdom

An ancient scripture reveals that we must love others as we love ourselves. The ancient text also states there is no greater wisdom than this action. What we don’t immediately illumine is this:

‘We cannot love anyone too much if we don’t love ourselves as much.’

Imagine-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Experiences

Feature Photo by Samuel Wong upsplash.com

Imagine if a genie appeared in my life and offered me a choice of any artistic gift I would desire. I know I would choose writing. Above all my experiences, writing has been the most fulfilling. The freedom of sitting down and climbing into the massive world of what I can imagine. Then to start tapping on the keys, watching the words form.  Finally, watching the birth of a story. It’s heaven.

The more I experience in my life, the more my Mother’s words return to me. She must have known something.

My experience has been; it’s not how long the road is, it’s a matter of how much you enjoy the journey.

Dreams are beautiful images to live with. Who knows, the day may yet come when they cannot be disputed.

I find that many experiences I have are like a treasure hunt. After searching I discover the benefits I gain are often as good as gold.

I Fly Solo-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

First Solo

Feature Image Credit

On this earth I will live life to the full, yet will I take my wings and fly high as well. As a result, the higher, I fly the more I can see. Above all, seeing is the fruit of believing.

I see miracles daily, They are all around me in the most eye-opening forms. As a consequence, the moment I gained awareness, my eyes were opened to many miracles in my life.

I can never say that I know someone or something for certain, not even myself.

My dreams are important to my onward journey. Above all, I need to keep them before my eyes; I need to sharpen my focus. As I focus, I generate energy into my dreams and cause them to materialize. The fact is that focusing requires a certain skill and I work on this skill daily. The benefits are encouraging.

I was recently given an assignment; to study Ogden Nash and then using his style, write a few poems of my own. This was a first for me and as a result, I wrote rather a long piece (which I never presented for the assignment) just to share with you, a special event in my life:

My First Solo.

Once I was earthbound and rather sad.

I was not happy with this, it made me quite mad.

One day I saw an airplane alighting into the sky.

She seemed like a feather as she climbed up high

I said to me, this is where you should be

In that plane, flying, that will be me.

I found an instructor, who beckoned me to follow

Delighted, in his steps I was aglow.

High into the sky, we alighted

And I became exceedingly frighted.

No matter said he, take the controls and see

That before long a pilot you shall be.

One day he climbed out of the plane

Telling me to fly, I said you’re insane

I was terrified you see

To fly all by myself, just me!

The plane wanted to fly

Being much afraid I could not see why

She leaped off the runway

As I felt my tummy heading toward my lower-way

My fears were then allayed

As my instructions I obeyed

And soon I was sailing in the still blue

The plane was happy too.

I was yelling, I can fly, I can fly

As free as a bird through the sky

Then a voice told me it was time to land

To herald my arrival I expected a band

As her wheels kissed the tarmac

I said, now you are a pilot; pat on the back.

Lifespan-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Lifespan

Featured Photo by Immo Wegmann upsplash.com

It is said that our lifespan is, “Four scores and ten.” This does sound like a long time, but it passes quickly for those of us that set about enjoying every moment of our lifespan.

I used to spend ages on the internet searching for ways to find more time to complete all my daily tasks. However, I did this until I learned; I can never ‘find’ time because time is an illusion. On the other hand, I am able to make space in my waking moments to accomplish a particular task, yes, but looking for time is a lost cause.

To enjoy that which I have at present is a wise state because it leads to a peaceful existence for me. However, at no extra cost, I can dream that more and much better is up ahead. This is the cherry on the top.

My Grandmother used to say, “You have to take the bitter with the sweet.” I say, do I really?  How about sweetening the bitter?

I Am Not My thoughts

I am not my body nor my mind (which includes my thoughts). Consider this; at the time of my conception, the process of developing my body and mind began. Even more than this there was a third constituent to this precious package, my spirit. My spirit is my built-in capacity to communicate with a world in myself. A world that does not operate in the realm of the senses. More than this, my spirit, unlike my body and mind is untouchable. My spirit remains unaffected by the events in my life, whatever they were. As it was in conception, my spirit’s state remains the same at my point of death. You have heard of the expression, ‘the authentic me.’ This is the authentic me; my untouched spirit, the person I really am.

Covid-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Covid

Feature Photo by Mufid Majnun upsplash.com

What I have learned so far with the Covid pandemic will work to benefit me in times to come.

I’ve always understood that a goal is something identified, scheduled, and worked on until accomplished. This is why I prefer dreams; as I think of one saying, I want that, hey-ho, it eventually materializes – so much less stress!

I never complain, because a complainer is a pain and does nothing to encourage others; constant complaints are like a dripping tap – irritating

I am sure I can be forgiven for questioning the truth of what contemporary media presents as truth.

Our Covid Experience

I can only offer my personal experience of the Covid pandemic and not a word more. Experts from all quarters have blasted the media, with their wide range of opinions and suggested solutions. And this has all been too much for my mind to absorb. Medical people advised my wife and me to have flu injections. Because of our age and their concern for our vulnerability. The practitioners were surprised we had never had one before, given our age. We accepted their advice and then, two weeks later both my wife and I went down with what we thought was flu.

Human Pin Cushions

The Guru’s confirmed it was Covid. Our recovery mercifully was quick, but we went through our quarantine all the same. At this point we both went through two Covid Jabs and a booster jab; then another flu jab. These were spread over a series of months, just to make sure. We felt like pin cushions!

Our Fortunate Circumstances

Sharing a home with our children in a large property and a top-floor suite, the extreme lockdown did not affect us too badly. The sea-front and a shopping complex were within the five-kilometer restriction limit. Our shopping and walking were easily accomplished. And both of us are grateful for our fortunate circumstances.

Christmas-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Cracker

Feature Photo by Deleece Cook upsplash.com

Sometimes messages of encouragement come to us with a bang. Consider the Christmas cracker; you pull, it bangs and hey-ho, out pops an encouraging message on a little piece of paper! Happy Christmas

Opportunities always seem to arrive tomorrow for me. This is quite beneficial, as tomorrow the fog would have lifted from my eyes and I will see them clearly.

I’m shocked to discover how many habits I have created in my life. Then I read that, thoughts are the mothers of habits. Little wonder I have so many habits, I must be an overthinker.

Never waste your time scratching around with old family documents, you never know what you might find. What if you discovered, even though your grandmother went to church every Sunday, she was a bank robber? Old documents are like old thoughts; best left in the attic.

Firstly, I find ‘To-Do’ lists work very well for me, keeping my life in a state of organized ‘chaos.’ Next, and just as necessary, I prioritize my list and do what is important first, then the urgent. I discovered, not all urgent matters are important. Now, this system really works for me. The given is, will I discipline myself to apply it?

Mountains-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Mountains

Feature Photo Willian Justen upsplash.com

I have read, “Faith can move mountains.” The question I have is this, “Once moved, where do I relocate them? Most importantly I have discovered, moving mountains is one thing, relocating them is another.

I changed things in my life after a very meaningful lesson. To start with, every relationship I experienced over the years irrespective of whether it was business, life partnership, or friendships, needed support. Most importantly, they had to be founded on three pillars: Love, transparency, and respect. However, I must explain the word love and the context in which I use the word: Agape (Greek) means the love we have for our fellow humans. Fileo (Greek) means the love we have for parents, children, and siblings. Eros (Greek) Means romantic love.

We are made of all those who have built and broken us. (Atticus Finch Quote from To Kill a Mockingbird.) What if we are not so much built and broken by others as we are built and broken by how we respond to their building and breaking of us?

Master-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Master

Feature Photo by Philippe Oursel upsplash.com

I am a man who has a ship full of dreams and I am the wise master of this ship. Moreover, because I am the master I can steer my dreams where I will.

The principle of giving results in receiving, accordingly I shall give my life all I have to give. As a result, I will receive a state of abundant living.

My heart is filled with a treasure of enormous wealth. So no one will ever be able to take this away from me. While I live my heart remains within me.

The wisdom I have accumulated in my life took a long time to fill me. Now I have it, it is here to stay.

Although I experience daily changes, my goal is unchanging. To live a wonderful life, and this to the full.

My long life, like a deep well, has much to draw from, and it’s always cool and fresh to the taste.
