Freedom-Peter’s Quote for The Day.

Freedom

Creating Gives You Freedom

I am both a reader and writer. The first fires my imagination, the second satisfies my creative desire. I am a creator. I am so because I chose to use the gift which was placed in me at the time of my conception. All the while, I never knew my creative gift was asleep within in me. Creating gives me freedom. This freedom tells me that I may go, at any time, in any direction I choose.

Exercising-Peter’s Quote for The Day.

Exercising

Exercise From The Mind

My best experience with gym sessions was the shower after. I diligently performed my exercise routine, but my mind was always elsewhere, because I disliked exercising. Yet I appreciate the value of exercising. I’ve improved on this though; having taught myself to love each movement of every exercise. I was told if I want to put more power into what I’m doing, I must focus my energy on what I’m doing.  I discovered this is working for me. Plus there is a bonus -I get more value for my gym fees. That’s not all… my mind, oh my mind, is so much sharper. I won’t tell this to the gym, they’ll up my fees!

Life-Peter’s Quote for The Day.

Life

Feature George Pagan 111 Upsplash.com

You Get What you Need.

I have never been a person of potent strength or intellectuality; my gift is an amazing ability of adapting to the vicissitudes of my life though. I have always made use of the resources at hand in my life. It has made me confident, under all circumstances, as I accomplished best with what I’ve had available. I’m happy with that. Accepting all situations, expected or otherwise, as I moved along, proved to be the wiser choice for me. My mindset behind accepting is; ‘This too shall pass and better is coming.’ It never fails.

Peter’s Quote for The Day- The Sun Has NoSorrow.

Feature Photo by Kelly Sikkema Upsplash.com

The Only Trustyworth Shadow Comes From The Sun.

Have you ever stood on an early winter’s day, before the sun has reached its Zenith, and noticed you have a shadow? Did you also see, once the sun does get to its Zenith, your shadow slips away? I have often observed these interesting frolics of the sun. Did you notice something about your shadow? It moves wherever you do. I made a remarkable discovery. While my shadow is visible at certain times and other times it slips out of sight, It never leaves me. Because it is my shadow, not belonging to anyone else. But, there is a more sinister shadow that enters my life now and again. This shadow is named Sorrow. Of course, it has other names, too; depression, rejection, anxiety, fear, hopelessness, to mention just a few.

Whether the sun shines or not, this shadow is invisible. It never appears or disappears. It is an intruder on my life, although it never comes into my life uninvited. When conditions are favorable to this intruder, it taps on my mind and says, I have something to give you, and it’s entirely free.

My interest is piqued, and I respond, tell me more. As it is often said, ‘The rest is history.’

A sage counselor of mine warned me, “John be cautious, Sorrow, is not your shadow; it does not belong to you. You invite guests into your life but throw intruders out. Never entertain Sorrow; throw it out the door of your mind.”  “What shall I do then; try and be happy?” I questioned. “You can never try and be happy because happiness is a result of your state of being.” The counselor responded. “Become aware of your authentic self, the person inside you, untouched by all the spin-offs of life’s misfortunes, then happiness becomes your bedfellow, and you eject Sorrow.”

Birds

As something different this week, I am posting the work of two of the WhyWrite? course participants –

This is Vivi’s contribution – enjoy:

When I look at birds – I just KNOW that they were designed!  They couldn’t have ‘just happened’ – their ability to build nests, their songs, their colours, their lightness of weight and ability to fly are all wonderful proof of their Designer!

I did not know much about birds, except for a little budgie I had as a child, so I was pleasantly surprised when my oldest son, John, kept mice in a box, made a mask and jesses for the feet of an eagle he planned to catch!  He also made a bow with a strong net, to spring over the bird if and when it landed on the box of mice- and then he waited, every day, to catch his bird.

Suddenly, one day, not long after the mice were outside a yellow-billed kite came down to feed on the mice and John let down the bow!  Then he put the mask onto the kite’s head so that it wouldn’t be able to see to escape and also the jesses onto its feet.  He was so excited and overwhelmed that he had caught his own bird, a young yellow-yellow-billed-kite-5billed kite.  He held the bird up on his hand and the bird hung on, not being able to see how to get away.

Every day when he arrived home from school he would give his bird fresh meat and it was well fed and healthy.  He continued to spend his allowance on the bird’s meat until he felt it needed to fly away and find a mate, so with love and sadness, he let it go and at first it did fly away and then, every day when I drove John home from school, we would see his ‘yellow-billy’ waiting for him on the roof of the house!

When he was married and living in Cape Town he was able to help reinstate injured birds back to their natural habitat, by taking care of them until they were ready.  He was given a falcon as a token of thankfulness for his kindness and he and his falcon were inseparable, very good friends!

However, when his wife’s family invited them to Empangeni for a week’s visit, he had to get a bird-sitter and he asked a neighbour to feed his falcon every day.  She gladly helped by feeding it, but the falcon was unhappy that John was not there and managed to get out of the cage and flew away to find him!!!!

John was devastated when he was told that his falcon was gone and made a special trip back to Cape Town to find it!  Although he drove around the area he could not find it and it had not come back, apparently still looking for him!  He phoned me because his return flight to his wife and family was the next day. He told me that he was praying and asked me to pray as well and we did.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful and not only heard our prayers but wonderfully guided John to drive past a fence on which a falcon was perched – and he slowed down and stopped the car in case it was his falcon – and it was!  The falcon was just as pleased to see him and actually jumped into the car!

We are still overwhelmed and grateful for that wonderful answer to our prayers and we know that all of creation did not ‘just happen’ it was designed by the Creator of heaven and earth, our loving Lord whom we can call Father.  Aren’t we blessed?!

Manifesting…..

A Pick-n-Pay Experience

I have often heard that Pick ‘n Pay ran competitions where one could win a month’s worth of groceries and wished I might be a lucky winner.

One day, Stella and I were debating as to whether to leave the comfort of our apartment, go out into the cold and do some shopping. Should we go local and that way return to our home sooner rather than later, or travel to the mall and make a morning of it.

We both needed issues to be resolved at our respective banks and decided that we might apply ourselves to the task of grocery shopping at the same time. In the light of this, we opted to brave the cold and travel to the mall.

Bank efforts took much longer than expected (why were we surprised?), by which time my stomach informed me that it was way past tea-time.

We opted to go to a Woollies for a croissant with butter and jam, along with a ‘nice’ cup of tea.

We were disappointed as the menu displayed the item, but we were told, it was ‘out of stock’. We made a second choice, which turned out to be a disaster.

We left Woollies disgruntled and went into Dis-chem and Stella asked why we were going into Dis-chem. “Shaving cream”, I replied. Why don’t we get it at Pick’nPay she asked? I thought for a moment and responded, “Good idea.”Pick 'n Pay

We walked into Pick’nPay and I asked, “Where would the shaving cream be?” Stella looked about thoughtfully and replied, “Down that aisle.” We marched down the aisle laughing and joking about our Woollies experience.

Along the way, we were approached by a young man, “We are looking for people to interview about their Pick’nPay experience, so we can use it for advertising on TV. If you accept doing the interview, we will give you a shopping voucher for R2500. Would you be prepared to be interviewed?”

I could not believe what I was hearing and began to cross question the young man to make certain I heard right. Stella said to the young man, “Interview him,” pointing to me. However, I was still trying to confirm what I’d heard. All the while Stella urged me to, “Go on John, you can manage that.” She was now raising her voice and laughing at the same time.

“Okay I’ll do it.” The young man looked happy.

Within what appeared to be only a few minutes, the camera team, complete with all their equipment, positioned me for the interview. A young lady tarted up my face and soon the camera was rolling. The young man began asking the first of his eight questions. He and the team seemed quite impressed. He said, “I never expected you to answer in this way – this is really great, he exclaimed!”Pick 'n Pay. 2jpg

After the shoot was done, amid reassurances that I was bound to make a continuity announcer on TV, we received our voucher; however, the team could not say if the King James Group would use the material.

Stella and I looked at each other awestruck!

As it happens, Stella and I are a retired couple and were a little tight on our food budget for the month. This windfall would be a big help in that regard.

Off the two of us went to tackle our shopping with new vigor and loads of laughter; we were like a couple of excited young children at Christmas time.

I looked around, not knowing what goodies to choose! Stella saw a bunch of Proteas – “These are beautiful.” she exclaimed, “Take them”, (We hadn’t bought flowers for ages) I waved my hand as if we had unlimited funds. She saw a little lamp she needed, “Take it”. I said in my most illustrious voice. We reached the Deli and I asked about a pie, which we hadn’t had for a while. “Let’s take two!” I cried. “Now, now, John. We just got R2500, not R25,000; stop getting carried away.” Stella retorted.

We laughed all the way down the aisles to the till point.

The joy we felt at our windfall was only exceeded by the wonderful way in which it had Pick 'n Pay. 3jpgall come together. We reasoned, as we chatted later; at any point along our journey we could have decided upon another route and would have missed this wonderful experience.

My wish had manifested – whats more….the cherry on the top was that the ad agency, King James, did use a clip and I appeared on TV!
