I Fly Solo-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

First Solo

Feature Image Credit

On this earth I will live life to the full, yet will I take my wings and fly high as well. As a result, the higher, I fly the more I can see. Above all, seeing is the fruit of believing.

I see miracles daily, They are all around me in the most eye-opening forms. As a consequence, the moment I gained awareness, my eyes were opened to many miracles in my life.

I can never say that I know someone or something for certain, not even myself.

My dreams are important to my onward journey. Above all, I need to keep them before my eyes; I need to sharpen my focus. As I focus, I generate energy into my dreams and cause them to materialize. The fact is that focusing requires a certain skill and I work on this skill daily. The benefits are encouraging.

I was recently given an assignment; to study Ogden Nash and then using his style, write a few poems of my own. This was a first for me and as a result, I wrote rather a long piece (which I never presented for the assignment) just to share with you, a special event in my life:

My First Solo.

Once I was earthbound and rather sad.

I was not happy with this, it made me quite mad.

One day I saw an airplane alighting into the sky.

She seemed like a feather as she climbed up high

I said to me, this is where you should be

In that plane, flying, that will be me.

I found an instructor, who beckoned me to follow

Delighted, in his steps I was aglow.

High into the sky, we alighted

And I became exceedingly frighted.

No matter said he, take the controls and see

That before long a pilot you shall be.

One day he climbed out of the plane

Telling me to fly, I said you’re insane

I was terrified you see

To fly all by myself, just me!

The plane wanted to fly

Being much afraid I could not see why

She leaped off the runway

As I felt my tummy heading toward my lower-way

My fears were then allayed

As my instructions I obeyed

And soon I was sailing in the still blue

The plane was happy too.

I was yelling, I can fly, I can fly

As free as a bird through the sky

Then a voice told me it was time to land

To herald my arrival I expected a band

As her wheels kissed the tarmac

I said, now you are a pilot; pat on the back.

Christmas-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Cracker

Feature Photo by Deleece Cook upsplash.com

Sometimes messages of encouragement come to us with a bang. Consider the Christmas cracker; you pull, it bangs and hey-ho, out pops an encouraging message on a little piece of paper! Happy Christmas

Opportunities always seem to arrive tomorrow for me. This is quite beneficial, as tomorrow the fog would have lifted from my eyes and I will see them clearly.

I’m shocked to discover how many habits I have created in my life. Then I read that, thoughts are the mothers of habits. Little wonder I have so many habits, I must be an overthinker.

Never waste your time scratching around with old family documents, you never know what you might find. What if you discovered, even though your grandmother went to church every Sunday, she was a bank robber? Old documents are like old thoughts; best left in the attic.

Firstly, I find ‘To-Do’ lists work very well for me, keeping my life in a state of organized ‘chaos.’ Next, and just as necessary, I prioritize my list and do what is important first, then the urgent. I discovered, not all urgent matters are important. Now, this system really works for me. The given is, will I discipline myself to apply it?

Moment of Silence

Eagle

Once my hearing was taken from me and I was placed into a space of absolute silence. I could hear nothing, not even the blood rushing against my temples. I watched the people around me, their lips moving as they spoke, smiles on their faces as they laughed. I had no fear, only wonderment as I moved from a place of silence to a deeply calm stillness. First, it began in my heart then it flooded my soul. I closed my eyes and marveled at the place I was in and it spurred me into a thought of thanksgiving for the new and novel experience. I did not speak, because, I thought, speaking will require responses and I won’t hear those…. I savored, by choice, my first-time experience of pure stillness.

It was strange, I was not even aware of my thoughts and now, as I write, I wonder how much of my thoughts in the past were created by sounds that I could hear.

I have met with people who have impaired hearing, over the years of my life. For me, they were uncomfortable times, as I felt deep pity for those souls. I experienced, sign language for the first time and people whom I had to face when speaking so that they could read my lips. Through these experiences though, I never gave a thought to what it must be like to hear nothing at all! Now for the very first time I could, without any warning, hear nothing!

In hindsight, I realize that not being able to hear anything was only a tiny, but beautiful, part of my experience.

What about life after the encounter? Yes, I had the luxury of moving effortlessly into stillness, like it used to be when I flew gliders, above the mountain ridge in the company of eagles. The return of my hearing, in retrospect, was like touching down on the runway after and being barraged by the chatter of the world and its demands.

Was I grateful to have my hearing restored? You bet I was! But my silent time left me with a desire to return to the stillness I experienced.

The only way I could hope to emulate the experience was to set about my morning meditating with new vigor. I don’t attain the same level of stillness, but at least I can thankfully return to the world chatter and demands after, because I realize, part of me needs that.

A Tailor’s Shoppe

Per chance, there was a day, when as I went, I espied, that there were a tailor’s shoppe along the way.

Surely, I cried, this is the place that I should seek, to have those changes to my attire that I wish to make.

Yet, many a day did go by, that I passed that way and woe, remembered that my cloth at castle remained.

One day, I determined, on seeing the tailor’s shoppe, that I would return to my castle and collect my cloth, then to present my cloth to the tailor for repair.

So it is that I went into the tailor’s shoppe, with some foreboding for that which I should find.

A World of Difference

Garden of Paradise

Are we not fortunate to be living in a world where every single thing that is within and surrounding us is different?

Whether you choose humanity, flora, fauna, geography, seasons, time, weather and garden-of-paradisenatural phenomenon, you will see difference.

If this is not startling enough, then just be still and open your eyes, not only your physical eyes, but your mental eyes as well. You will come to see, after a while, that there is not only difference in everything, but there is absolute perfection in all the differences.

Resplendent Heaven

Stars in heavens

I was all of twenty years old and in love. We met at a Fabric Designers workshop and the moment my eyes gazed into hers, I knew I had reached heaven on earth.

She invited me to join her for a weekend getaway in the mountains, with her Fabric Designers Group.

At nineteen she was the youngest member, not outgoing, but with a warm inviting personality and quick affinity, which drew old and young to her. Her soft British accent with its quaint idiosyncrasies and expressions gave her added magnetism. She was pretty with full curly hair down to her shoulders and whilst men happily looked her way (too frequently for my liking) she booked no shallow talk nor nonsense. I saw beauty, warmth and strength wholly in one precious woman.

After all the joviality of meeting the group, we went off to our rooms. Amid romantic imaginings I drifted off to sleep. At about 2 am I woke up and could not go back to Stars in heavens 3sleep. Dressing up warmly, (it was cool in the mountains.) decided to go for a walk.

Stepping out the front door and closing it as quietly as I could, I looked up to see a figure standing on the lawn – it was her! “Hello,” she whispered, “Trouble sleeping?” she continued. “Yes,” I stuttered, overwhelmed at seeing her.

“Follow me.” She instructed. Taking my hand, she led me to the bottom of the garden. Stopping, she turned and spoke softly into my ear.  “Lie down and look up into the heavens.” Did I detect a huskiness in her voice?

We lay down, side by side and once again she took my hand. We gazed upwards. “Here in the mountains, in winter especially, you will view the universe with new eyes; s stars-in-heavens-2.jpgthis is because there is no unnatural light, as in the city.” She whispered.

We gazed at a most startlingly lucid vista of the firmament, with paling moon, stars of every shape and size, bright constellations everywhere. A shooting star flashed across the magnificent scene.

“Oh! She sighed, how resplendent, Isn’t it…? Everything so limitless, brilliant: the stars glittering, like diamonds in a transcendent pool. “

Deep within me, were strong feelings that sensed the pulsing of her hand as it held mine, the warm touch of her body alongside me. I longed to tell her of the resplendent heaven inside my heart, beating with an excitement, I had not experienced before. I longed to share my feelings with her but felt afraid to do so. “Maybe it was too early in our meeting, for me to open my heart so.” I reasoned.

“Are you enjoying this experience?” She turned to me.

“I am in a resplendent heaven, oh yes, I am. I could gaze at this magnificent scene forever” I responded in a voice too choked for my liking, as it fought its way past my impassioned emotion and did not allow me to add, “with you, beautiful lady”.

Butterfly 4

The butterfly greeted the caterpillar, “Come let us fly”, warily the caterpillar replied, “Alas, I cannot fly, for I am a caterpillar”. “Hast a caterpillar wings”? The butterfly mocked. ”Of a truth you are no longer a caterpillar, but rather a butterfly. Come, let us fly…”
