Advice-Wisdom Snippets From Peter.

Advice

Featured Photo by Thea Upsplash.com

I have discovered, advice from others must be dealt with carefully. To listen to advice is one thing, to act on it is quite another. Advice for which I have not asked I have learned to be particularly cautious about.

I never approach anything in my life with an attitude of wariness. I much prefer to be fearless in tackling everything.

Since my youth, I have been a adventurous person. This state has led me through many painful and frightening experiences but I would do it all over again – on one condition; I know what I know now.

Many are the encounters in my life, where I never saw the pitfalls ahead of me. I simply plowed ahead oblivious of the dangers – which is just as well. Then I saw a horse, in busy traffic, with blinkers on and I realized I was not alone in my folly or my accomplishment

Powerful-Wisdom Snippets -From Peter.

Power

Feature Photo by Johannes Plenio Upsplash.com

My talents are no match against the daily happenings released by the universe. But the powerful light within in me is greater than that of the Universe. There is a powerful force within me. It is activated by me pushing the ‘release’ button in my mind and the result becomes visible once I act. In discovering the latent power within me, I met a lifelong partner.

With the mindset, ‘I can.’ I can not be stopped.

I notice that science and the world, in general, move forward rapidly every day. I join them and go with the flow; it stimulates my mind and growth. I feel so much better too.

My aptitude for hard work and commitment is a treasure beyond value and it has always got me by. It always will. There are two things that have been a tremendous help to me. One is my positive attitude, the other, a strong aptitude for work and consistency.

Daily I attempt to make full use of my talents. As I use them the results encourage me so much I find myself looking for more. Also interesting, with these talents, I never seem to get to the bottom of the well!

Manage Your Life-Wisdom Snippets From Peter

Live work Create

Feature Photo by Jon Tyson Upsplash.com

Four Wisdom Snippets To Help You Manage Your Life.

Can it be that I have a mind which is capable of practicing disciplined management? A mind that is able to manage every circumstance in my life. Accepting all as being designed to accomplish my purpose in this life. As I accomplish this, my mind is in a state of peace and happiness.

I should learn from the sea; she wills great rock formations into grains of sand, simply by washing over them. She never needs all her physical strength.

If the thoughts of my mind were as rose coloured spectacles, I would see all in the world through one kaleidoscope of glorious colour. No one different from another.

I do not see age as a measure of time, but rather as a state of attitude.

Peter’s Quote for the Day – Age.

Age

Feature Photo by Robert Thiemann Upsplash.com

Age.

Age has afforded me the most significant amount of no-cost experience. It is truly the best investment I have ever made (accepting all experiences I have ever had.) The beauty of this situation is, I am on a journey of never-ending experience. Everything I have learned in life was taught to me by experience. I think experiences of every sort, with no exception, must be a ‘Pearl of Great Price.” My age arranged it this way to improve my life and shape my attitude toward my fellow humans. Isn’t this wonderful?

Things Not To Buy While Traveling

I am unable to reblog to my site and have purely copied from Dan’s. Use this link to reach Dan’s site direct:

When you’re in a new place, it’s easy to spend money. You’ve saved for & planned a holiday, so it is easy to keep the “Treat yourself” attitude alive when it comes to buying things. Whether you’re on a relaxing holiday or exploring new cities, you will come across items that seem exotic & the novelty of not being able to get them at home will persuade you even more. More often than not, these items are not worth the money & your hard-earned money would be better spent on something else. Here’s a list of things I’d suggest skipping on your next trip. I will say that there are, of course, some people who will genuinely buy these things & get great use out of them, but these people are few & far between.

Traditional clothing

Buying clothes & shoes while on a trip is generally a bad idea because you’ll struggle with packing & baggage weight on your way back home. Traditional clothes of the country or city you are visiting is an even worse purchase because they often have a hefty price tag & you will never use them. Most people don’t even wear their own traditional clothes because they’re impractical so they will be even more so for you. It is very easy to get carried away in the moment but think about this clearly before purchasing.

A Tattoo

Just as getting inked after a few drinks is not the best idea, getting a tattoo while on a “holiday high” is probably something you would want to avoid. The design might seem like a wonderful idea at the time, but not be appropriate when you get home. You also don’t know the quality, price & cleanliness of the random parlor you walk into.

Tacky souvenirs

A souvenir is meant to be a memento of a place you visited or a trip you’ve taken. Tacky souvenirs don’t last long &, therefore, waste your money. You’ll also want something nice looking to have on display in your house, right?

Bulky souvenirs

On the topic of souvenirs, buying heavy, fragile, or bulky souvenirs is not a good idea. You will struggle packing these items into your luggage & they have a higher chance of breaking on their way home. I have made this mistake a few too many times.

Hotel food

Whether it is from the restaurants in hotels or room service, hotel food is expensive. More often than not, the quality is not good either. Save yourself some money & go looking for local restaurants. Better yet, be a little adventurous & try some street food

Neck pillow

Okay, so this is not an exotic item. If you’ve followed this blog for some time, you’ll know I hate these things. Neck pillows get forgotten, dropped on the floor, collect all kinds of germs & shoved into overhead compartments on aircraft. Very rarely are they actually used. You might truly believe you will use it, but I highly doubt it.

Things for other people

This is last on the list because this is something I struggle with the most. It’s perfectly fine to buy gifts for your loved ones, but when people find out you’re going to a specific place, they ask you to get things for them. Your colleagues hear you’re headed to Switzerland? They ask for chocolate. That lady in your yoga class asks for skincare products when you return from South Korea. This happens often. I don’t think people realize the cost involved as well as the time it takes to find these items & then the hassle of getting them back home. It’s nice to be nice & do things for other people, but remember that this is your trip & your time.

I hope these have helped & will save you some money in the future.

Oh… and you might be wondering about the featured image for this post; horse poo I saw for sale in New Zealand – yea, don’t buy that while traveling.

Keep traveling, keep safe.

Habits Atomic

Feature Photo by Lala Azizli Upsplash.com

Changing Habits

I have always resisted any form of change. As time has passed, I have realized that change is a constant in my life, whether I like it or not. Resisting change is a habit I have had for more years than I can remember. Try though I may, I could not break this habit.

I was under the illusion of believing that so-called change involved only the bigger developments in my life, not incidental, moment-to-moment happenings.

There are myriads of annoying little incidents that take place in my life. A neighbor’s yapping dog, someone playing excessively loud music, a person being rude to me. All these are annoying, to say the least. But why am I so affected by these events? Because they are challenging me to change my bad attitude habit.

After reading much of Eckhart Tolle’s works, I began to wake up to the fact that the pain I felt in resisting change was from my habit, not the challenge of change.

He also speaks about ‘conscientiousness’ and the importance of living in that state. I now practice this throughout my day. I discipline myself to focus through the course of every activity I’m engaged in, no matter how small.

Reading Tolle’s information has had miraculous results for me.

I live in the now moment. I contend with my old habits of resisting change. I’m continually aware that my habits create my pain, not the challenge of change.

Peter’s Quote for The Day.

Head in Cloud

Once, as I was standing on a mountain when suddenly a cloud engulfed my head. Thankfully my feet were firmly planted on the ground. Makes you think, doesn’t it? If my mind gets clouded, my feet had better be firmly planted.

Peter’s Quote of The Day

wisdom 2
  1. I Since childhood, I have always had a n excellent attitude (Maybe I was born this way.) Better still, As I grew older, I became known for my enthusiasm; now that I am older still I have become wiser – I  must tell you, the combination of attitude, enthusiasm and wisdom is nothing short of explosive!

I love each new day; the advantage of waking up and finding I’m alive, and the fact that once again, opportunity calls from outside the covers. Its so worthwhile waking and having gratitude for being alive; because one day I will wake up and find I’m dead! On that day I shan’t bother to find out what’s outside the covers – I will know.

I am Author, Writer, and Blogger.

Whilst the titles might make me sound important, I am not. I love people and have a strong passion to encourage people and help them to love themselves.

Writing and publishing on my blog site is simply what I do.

What do I write? Over the years I have published, short stories, Inspirational articles, poems, reviews of books, movies, restaurants, and more.

Although of late I have focused more on ‘Words of Wisdom’ articles that invite people to challenge themselves as far as their self-development is concerned and these I publish weekly, under the title, “Weekly Words of Wisdom” on my blogsite: http://www.sirpeterjames.com.

Having had an excellent response to the “Weekly Words of Wisdom,” it makes sense to publish a daily, “Peter’s Quote for The Day,” in the hopes that you will, not only read it, but let the words be drawn into your very soul and finally, and most important of all – you will apply them to your life.

Weekly Words of Wisdom

Change

Feature Photo by Brett Jordan Upsplash.com

Changing Attitude

Mostly, changes, in all their forms came about unexpectedly in my life. Some were dramatically quick, others so slow that I didn’t even notice until they were upon me. In particular small changes were often like this.

If I give some thought; changes that I liked, I accepted; changes that I didn’t like, I resisted. Yet, I recall that often the changes that I embraced, were, in the long run not beneficial to me, and changes that I resisted became lost opportunities. In other words, accepting changes  I enjoy was not always the right thing for me and similarly, those I resisted, because they did not appeal to me, would have been the better option.

What I discovered over the years was this; I am not always the best judge of what changes to accept and which to resist.

If I was to accept changes that came into my life without resisting, then I could in due course apply these changes, ultimately to my benefit. If I could not apply them to my benefit I would accept them until such time as I was ready to make other arrangements.

I think of recent Covid-19 lockdown regulations. Here was change affecting people on a global basis. As these changes were introduced by law, none of us could have resisted them, except under the pain of heavy fines. We all accepted the changes and began to adapt to the situation, awaiting a day when we could return to, at the very least, a semblance of our previous lifestyles.

Many of us started to work from home, adapting to being almost completely housebound and not enjoying the physical company of our fellow workers, family, or friends. Many were put off work, some were paid state benefits; airline pilots were painting houses, change was the order of the day in every phase of our lives. For the most part, it was, ‘adapt or die.’

I noticed at the beginning of this bizarre state, I resisted the enforced changes in my mind. But as time passed, I realized this attitude was fruitless and on the advice of several articles I read, relating to the subject of change, I did just that – I changed my attitude!

Knowing that I was helpless to resist the enforced changes I adapted to apply a different way of living, with a view to ‘putting a finger in the dyke’ until I could repair the hole.

I had no trouble sleeping after that.

Weekly Word of Wisdom

Both Sides Now

“Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air

And feather canyons everywhere, I’ve looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone

So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way…”

From <https://www.songfacts.com/lyrics/judy-collins/both-sides-now>

As a pilot, I discovered that during daylight, the sky is always blue. All I had I had to do, was to fly above the clouds to witness it.

The true ‘clouds’ in my life are the never-ending thoughts that seem to create all manner of negatives, especially fears in my mind. The solution for me was to rise above these clouds and live in that space.

I came to understand my true identity is me, not the thoughts in my mind. The ‘thoughts in my mind’ are placed there by the Ego – the speaker. I am the listener.

The purpose of the Ego (the voice speaking thoughts in my mind) is to protect me from doing or saying things that might be harmful and from me taking unnecessary risks.

Here’s the crux of the matter; the Ego cannot discern between risk and opportunity, it simply sees everything in my life as risk!

What is most important though, is how I respond to what I hear. If thoughts engender such things as fear, doubt, anxiety, and multitudes of other negatives, I simply observe them and then, allow them to drift out of my mind. If thoughts of love, joy, peace excitement and such fill me, I embrace them fully.

Above all, I need to decide to take risks when necessary in order to seize opportunities, or else lose them.

The skill needed in my life is wise thought management; considering that thoughts become actions and these will have a future consequence, it is vital I choose correctly. If I do not conscientiously manage the moment-by-moment stream of thoughts overwhelming my mind, I become victim to many negative feelings and even depression at some level.
