Sylvia Rose’s Story is a series, published monthly. Why not start at Chapter One?
Things My Mother Taught Me
I am going to try and give you some insight into this amazing woman and the deep impact she has had on my life. I feel privileged to call her my Mom. Although we live in different countries, we speak every day. She has always been fiercely protective of her children. Nobody comes between my mother and her children, she is still like that today. She wasn’t scared to take on ANYONE if they hurt her babies. She would take on the principle for unfair punishment and treatment, to your ‘best friend’s’ mother for not taking good enough care of her angels at the friend’s house!
I know now why the Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou
One evening after a very heated argument with my daughter; anger in her eyes she turned to me and said, “Happiness comes from within, you create your own happiness. Get your shit together. You have to love yourself before you can possibly love anyone. Look at all your failed relationships; they didn’t last because you can’t even love yourself”!
After many tears in my room, it got me thinking, she was right. How could I possibly move on with my life if there was so much inner hate? I made a decision then; I would make a concerted effort to work on my life and my self-happiness. There were places I knew exactly where I needed to start.
When the ‘almost husband’ invited me to come and spend Christmas with him in the UAE I was ecstatic.
Firstly because I have never traveled abroad. I know right, 46, and never traveled internationally! But the main reason was that I would get to spend five whole weeks with him all by myself! No children no work pressure NOTHING! Just him and I basically on a honeymoon.nd believe me Dubai, is the best place to spend a honeymoon (trust us to do things the other way round). And we have never had that kind of time alone in all the ten years we have been together. So it was a first time and a very exciting one at that.
It is a secret place the land of tears (The little Prince – Antoine de Saint St Exupery).
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery is my favorite book, I have read it over 50 times, and still revert back to it today. For those that don’t know, it’s a story about a little Prince, his planet and a rose, with who he is in love.
I’m writing this article under a cloud, yes I told you it isn’t all rainbows and unicorns, and recovery is a daily battle. I don’t wake up every morning and feel fantastic, ready to conquer the world. But as promised “I’m showing up”.
